Insomniac Confirms No Story DLC for Spiderman 2
Insomniac Games recently confirmed that Spider-Man 2 will not have story-based DLC. That is quite disappointing for fans eagerly waiting for more storyline-tailored content because the original Spider-Man did pretty well in terms of game sales and critical reception. The original Marvel’s Spider-Man had a DLC titled The City That Never Sleeps, which separated the storyline into three episodes. Many fans hoped the same would happen with Spider-Man 2, but now that will not occur.
No Spiderman 2 DLC Content Planned
Insomniac officially confirmed that there were no plans for Spiderman 2 DLC. In response to fan inquiries during a recent update, the studio stated, “While we have no additional story content planned for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we’re delighted to bring all of our previously released post-launch content to the PC version.” This message disappointed fans. Especially those hoping for more storylines centered on characters like Venom or new adventures for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
Ransomware Attack Delayed Spiderman 2 DLC Content
One reason for not including further story material may be a ransomware attack on Insomniac in December 2023. The video game development studio was attacked by the group Rhysida, who released confidential information regarding Spider-Man 2 and other future games like Wolverine. It may have disrupted scheduled production timetables and caused a delay in the intended content for the game. It could possibly be another reason not to give other story content.
Focus on New Projects
The other belief is that Insomniac Games has expressed interest in different projects, like the rumored Wolverine game, and is not interested in putting more resources into Spiderman 2 DLC. The studio has a track record of having multiple high-profile projects occurring simultaneously, but now it may want to be sure its Wolverine plays at the same level as the Spider-Man series.
Cosmetic Updates Instead of Story DLC
While no new storylines will be coming, Spider-Man 2 is set to continue to get smaller updates in the future. These updates range from new suits to cosmetic items, which have been added to the game since its release. The studio has also introduced a New Game Plus mode, where players can replay the game with every unlocked ability. This, however, does not find solace in the fans’ desire for much more meaty content like the expansion of The City That Never Sleeps.
Speculations and Rumors About Venom
Some fans think Insomniac’s decision to call off the story DLC may be a sign of something bigger happening. Maybe they are working on the character Venom. There is word of a standalone Venom game that will be developed on how the DLC could be converted into a full-fledged game. The rumor gained steam since the ransomware attack leaked some files hinting at upcoming titles such as the Venom spin-off.
Reaction About Spiderman 2 DLC
The reaction within the gaming community has been mixed, as some fans have felt content with the DLCs or expansions that have been provided—these range from new suit offerings to game enhancement updates. Instead, the majority feel let down for not having solid post-launch content.
Most players are still voicing frustration on social media, as there has been immense waiting and a missed opportunity to add richness and meaning to Spider-Man 2’s narrative developments.
Insomniac’s Communication Issues
Yet another gripe is when the actual DLC came out by Insomniac Games. Being released in October 2023, the game left players in suspense to the point where it spanned almost a full year. Fans keep speculating about whether there will be any DLC coming out. Many fans think the studio should have said more about it sooner rather than keeping everyone waiting for this amount of time. Communication comes late, but it has made some people feel they were being lied to, especially when the post-launch content of the first game was highly appreciated.
What’s Next for Spiderman 2?
More efforts are needed to avoid a dead-end situation for the game since there is no Spider-Man 2 DLC. Nevertheless, the game will continue to receive gameplay updates and cosmetic additions. Insomniac announced that the PS5 Pro will receive a free update in November. It also comes with an upgrade to the game’s performance on the new hardware. The PC will receive the game in early 2025 and have all its post-launch content at release .
Many are disappointed that no story DLC has been confirmed for Spider-Man 2. Some minor updates will be made through added suits and upgraded features. The studio has been concentrating on other projects, such as games like Wolverine and future Spider-Man titles. This might explain why they are not taking any further action to extend the storyline in Spider-Man 2. Fans now expect better things from Insomniac Games in their future Marvel projects.
