8 Things We Know About Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is hotly anticipated,  especially for fans eager to witness Rocksteady Studios‘  return after an 8-year hiatus.  Set in the Arkhamverse,  a gaming universe synonymous with Batman’s legacy,  this title takes a bold leap,  shifting the focus from the Dark Knight to the unlikely anti-heroes of the Suicide Squad.  So,  as the release date looms closer,  let’s go over the 8 things we know about Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League,  shall we?

    What is the Suicide Squad?

    What is the Suicide Squad?

Superheroes can’t solve every problem.  Sometimes extreme situations call for unconventional measures,  or, more precisely,  extraordinary individuals.  Enter the notorious Belle Reve Prisons residence,  Super-Villains.  Officially,  nobody acknowledges this covert operation.  This group of supervillains,  orchestrated by their director Amanda The Wall Waller, tackles high-stakes covert missions in exchange for reduced prison sentences.  The risks are sky-high,  and regardless of their abilities, every squad member is considered expendable.  Not everyone will make it back.  To ensure compliance,  each member has an explosive device in their neck.  Attempting to escape during a mission isn’t an option.  Run away,  and they will blow up.

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League- Characters

    Suicide Squad- Characters

Over the years,  many characters have been featured in the Suicide Squad.  But in this game,  only Captain Boomerang,  Deadshot,  Harley Quinn,  and King Shark step into the spotlight as notorious members of the Suicide Squad,  an elite assembly of the DC World’s most dangerous supervillains who have been caught. While Deadshot and Harley Quinn may feel familiar from previous Batman Arkham games,  Captain Boomerang and King Shark make their official gaming debut,  having only appeared in the 2014 animated movie Batman Assault on Arkham,  which is considered part of the Arkhamverse.

Amanda Waller,  the director of Argus,  oversees the Suicide Squad program,  while Gizmo,  a genius inventor,  supplies the squad with gadgets and weapons.  Wonder Woman makes an intriguing appearance in the trailers, leaving fans to speculate on her role in this chaotic narrative.  Will she be an adversary,  a reluctant ally,  or something in between?  In the wider Arkhamverse,  the Justice League,  once a symbol of heroism,  undergoes a dark transformation after the supposed death of Bruce Wayne.  Brainiac emerges as the primary antagonist,  wielding telepathy and possession to manipulate members of the Justice League.  Superman,  once a beacon of hope,  becomes a puppet under Brainiac’s control, and other heroes like Flash and Green Lantern show signs of resistance.  Wonder Woman’s allegiance remains a mystery,  with glimpses of her fighting both Superman and Captain Boomerang in the trailers.  The Penguin makes a confirmed appearance,  adding a touch of humor to the villainous mix.

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League- Story

    Suicide Squad- Story

Positioned as a sequel to the Arkham Knight,  the game unfolds months after the presumed death of Bruce Wayne,  ensuring that Batman won’t be making an appearance in the game.  This isn’t the first time the Arkham games have teased the Suicide Squad.

The post-credits scene of Batman Arkham Origins introduce Amanda Waller recruiting Deathstroke to join the squad,  laying the groundwork for their presence.  In Batman Arkham Origins Black Gate,  Deadshot and Bronze Tiger link up with Task Force X.  It’s also worth noting that Rocksteady has yet to confirm the fate of characters like Deathstroke,  Bronze Tiger,  and Bane in the Arkhamverse.  Oh,  and as a fun piece of trivia,  Captain Boomerang and King Shark are supposed to be already dead in the Arkhamverse. This perplexing universe extends beyond the Arkham video games,  encompassing animated movies and comic books that contribute to the lore.  Now,  moving on to the plot in Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League,  the story kicks off with Amanda Waller in charge of Argus,  gathering a group of villains turned heroes from Arkham Asylum.  While it’s not clear if we’ll explore places like Gotham City,  the narrative promises an epic adventure filled with unexpected twists.  Though the tale is new,  it takes cues from DC Comics,  offering a chaotic and wild ride fitting for the Suicide Squad.

    Combat

    Suicide Squad- Combat

While the Arkham games were known for their fluid combat and exploration,  Suicide Squad promises a hybrid experience,  blending Rocksteady’s expertise in bringing characters like Batman to life,  with intense gunplay.  Each of the four playable characters,  Deadshot,  Captain Boomerang,  Harley Quinn,  and King Shark,  offers a more intricate moveset than what players experience with Batman.  The open world of Metropolis becomes their playground, with each character possessing unique melee and ranged weapons.  For instance,  Deadshot wields a long-ranged rifle,  Harley Quinn brandishes a baseball bat,  and Boomerang taps into the speed force for rapid traversal.  Choosing between the four characters isn’t a rigid decision in Suicide Squad.

In single-player mode,  AI bots control three squad members at all times,  allowing players to switch between characters seamlessly.  This dynamic gameplay approach ensures that whether you’re sniping enemies with Deadshot or swinging a baseball bat with Harley, the choice is yours.

    Battle Pass

    Battle Pass

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League introduces a feature familiar to many modern games,  the Battle Pass.  Rocksteady confirms that the Battle Pass won’t provide any gameplay advantages.  Instead,  it focuses on cosmetic items.  This means players can expect a steady stream of new content post-launch,  including playable characters,  weapons,  and missions.  During Sony’s State of Play showcase,  Rocksteady emphasized its commitment to supporting the game post-launch, ensuring players receive a variety of fresh content.  The Battle Pass allows players to customize the appearance of their characters without altering the game’s balance.

    Multiplayer

    Multiplayer

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League embraces cooperative gameplay with full support for four-player co-op.  Players have the flexibility to form squads with any configuration they desire,  with AI bots filling any remaining squad slots.  Creative director Sefton Hill hints at a seamless drop-in-drop-out functionality,  emphasizing the dynamic nature of the experience.

Whether you choose to tackle the game’s challenges solo or team up with friends,  Suicide Squad offers a unique blend of single-player and multiplayer experiences.  The entirety of the game remains accessible in both modes,  allowing players to switch between them at will.  This flexibility ensures that the cooperative aspect is seamlessly integrated into the overall gaming experience,  providing diverse options for how you want to tackle the chaos and metropolis.

    Platforms

    Platforms

While Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League boasts full support for four-player co-op, there’s a lingering uncertainty about cross-play between different platforms.  Rocksteady has not confirmed whether players on PC,  PS5,  and Xbox Series X will be able to join forces seamlessly.  Drawing parallels with another Super Euro co-op game from Warner Bros. Games Interactive,  Gotham Knights,  which lacks cross-platform multiplayer,  raises questions about Suicide Squad’s cross-play prospects.  As of now,  the status remains undisclosed,  leaving players curious about the potential for collaborative chaos across different gaming systems.

    Release Date

    Release Date

As the excitement builds for Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League,  fans can mark their calendars for the highly anticipated release date,  February 2,  2024.  This date follows a series of delays,  with the most recent attributed to concerns about the game’s live service format.  Rumors of delays had circulated,  and Rocksteady addressed the issue,  emphasizing that the extra time is dedicated to crafting the best possible gaming experience.  From the initial reveal in 2020 to the recent updates in 2023, the game has undergone its share of transformations,  promising an immersive experience set in the Arkhamverse.  The blend of a diverse playable roster,  cooperative gameplay,  and the story that unfolds in the aftermath of Batman’s disappearance makes it a rather unique experience.  I just can’t help but wonder,  will Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League live up to the expectations set by its Arkham predecessors?  Only time will tell.
