The medieval times were a very harsh and challenging time for humanity. There were a lot of challenges we had to face, and we always were dealing with a plethora of diseases. But it didn’t stop us from evolving and pushing our way through. Blight: Survival takes inspiration from that and it brings a unique perspective and idea. It’s one of those games that truly stands out with its innovative and immersive gameplay, and it certainly sets the tone for a very distinctive type of game we have never seen in a while.
What is Blight: Survival?
At its core, Blight: Survival is a medieval cooperative roguelike game. It’s also said to be an extraction game, meaning you go through the maps and try to do everything you can in order to ensure you stay alive, kill the enemies, and then extract safely. The idea of having an extraction game in the medieval setting is exciting, but for a lot of people what matters the most is having the cooperative gameplay in such a unique place.
It really is something unique and different, and it’s going to become even better and more creative as time goes by. But the sheer focus on exploring these medieval lands that were full of people and now they are all monsters is very interesting. They clearly show the world you are in right now is not a simple one. There are a plethora of different situations you have to deal with and it’s only going to get worse and worse.
That’s why you have to try and figure out where all these monsters are coming from. You eventually realize that it has to do with the Blight, hence the name of the game. The Blight is a deadly affliction that has started to plague the land and it’s really difficult to deal with. You have to figure out the best way of dealing with the blight and that alone is not going to be easy. With that being said, the locations and the gameplay really add to the excitement, while also improving the experience and bringing in that unique appeal.
Blight: Survival’s gameplay
You will be playing in the no man’s land that can be found between 2 kingdoms at war. Obviously, this is not a friendly place and it’s full of different challenges that you need to face. However, you need to do everything you can in order to stop people from dying and becoming monsters. Since you area the only one willing to do something, you are put into the middle of this war and you need to try and find a way to stay alive, while also dealing with the Blight.
It seems like an impossible task, but it’s certainly going to provide you with the means to push the limits and immerse yourself into the process in a very creative and enjoyable way. The idea of having a roguelite game means that you will always enter a new mission and reset your character’s abilities when you enter the game.
That means you have an unlimited number of runs, and all can be different from each other. Since it’s a roguelite, we expect the game to have an overarching progression, which means after every mission you can acquire experience and use those points to unlock various rewards. It adds to the excitement and creativity of the game, while also being very innovative and unique.
Plus, that also means you can always come back and try a new run, improve the overall progression and push it to the next level. You are free to do as many runs as you want, and the stuff that matters is that you actually progress in the game as you go along. It’s a nice change of pace, and one that can help speed things up.
The extraction game element
As you saw earlier, the game does have an extraction element to it, and that alone is something that you have to think about. The sheer idea of adding in a unique style of gameplay is great here. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of information when it comes to how the extraction experience will work, but we can assume the game will have objectives we need to do during every run.
Once you complete all objectives, there will be an extraction area at the end of the map. That’s where you will need to go, but in general these extraction games also have a huge number of enemies attacking you as you want to extract and finish the level. It’s usually the concept for this type of games, and you will find it to be extremely appealing and fun.
With that being said, Blight: Survival does an excellent job at keeping you on your toes and constantly bringing in a unique gameplay perspective. We don’t know the exact way they are implementing this extraction element, but it’s definitely the first game to attempt doing that and combine it with the roguelite genre. That alone makes it very exciting and fun, but also full of creativity as well.
Taking the right decisions
The Blight: Survival gameplay will also allow us to extract at different points, at least from what we see in the Blight: Survival steam page. Having the opportunity to extract or push forward and risk it all can help quite a bit. But that’s what makes the game interesting, since you always have a choice and you need to figure out how to tackle the situation and narrow things down in the best way possible. It’s definitely not an easy feat, not to mention you have to stay alive and survive in such a demanding and challenging world.
Playing with others
Blight: Survival is already a very appealing game for a lot of people, but it’s even more exciting since they said the game will have complete cooperative support. Apparently the game can be played in groups of up to 3 people. Needless to say, the gameplay itself is a lot of fun and having more manpower can increase the chances of survival. That doesn’t mean it will be an easy thing to do. However, it can become interesting and very fun to do this, and the experience as a whole is extremely exciting.
Splitting objectives and monsters with other people can improve the chances of staying alive, and the game certainly gets to feel a lot easier. However, we expect that the enemy power increases 2x or 3x to enhance how difficult those enemies can be. That’s definitely a possibility and a thing that will most likely keep the game balanced.
That doesn’t mean the game will be easy or anything, we just expect the Blight: Survival gameplay to adjust and adapt based on how good players are and how reactive they can be in this barren world. It’s definitely not a title for the faint of heart, and it will certainly have its fair share of challenges too.
Multiple weapons to choose from
Blight: Survival is a medieval game, so right off the bat you will have to deal with a lot of different challenges. You will also have access to era-accurate weapons, according to the Blight: Survival steam page. Thy state that you will have melee and ranged weapons like bows. However, you also have armor and talents that can be customized.
We don’t know if you can have talents specific to a certain character type or if we play as the same character and mold it to our liking. One might expect classes or anything around that idea, but it’s really hard to know how it will all come together. What’s great is that you have the option to customize and modify things.
In a lot of games, you can acquire loot and optimize your build with talents. We hope that Blight: Survival is in a similar vein, but it’s hard to know exactly what form will that take and if it will be a tricky one or not. In the end, Blight: Survival does an excellent job at keeping things under control, and it’s extremely rewarding, while also being very fun and immersive too.
Find hidden treasures
The game will also have some locations with hidden treasure. They don’t say it, but we can only assume any valuable item in the game will be very well kept by enemies and protected by huge monsters. That alone is a reason to play Blight: Survival, because it does challenge you to do the best you can and push yourself to the next level.
That being said, the title does an excellent job at bringing in a unique set of game mechanics and it does encourage you to push your limits without being too focused on other aspects. What’s nice to see in a game like Blight: Survival is that they do encourage you to extract at certain points, and you are the one that will figure out whether you do go forward or stop and accumulate some overarching progress. It’s up to you, and that’s what makes it such an excellent game in the first place.
What platforms can Blight: Survival be played on?
Right now, the main focus seems to be on the PC version. But we will have a Blight: Survival Xbox and Blight: Survival PS5 version, according to the developers. However, it’s most likely that version will come down the line. So we can expect Blight: Survival console versions sometime in the next few years.
The thing is, we don’t even know at what point in development the game is right now, so it can be very difficult to speculate. They did say that consoles are indeed supported, but it’s not a focus right now as they want to finish the game first. That’s understandable and certainly we will play this on console, but it’s not a priority for the time being.
What’s the Blight: Survival release date?
When will Blight: Survival be released? That’s the thing a lot of people are wondering and for a very good reason. Knowing the release date of the game is very important and it can be quite difficult to understand. Since there’s no specific info about what state the game is in right now, we can only speculate the game will arrive after 2024. It might be a year or two until we see the game, unless the developers state it will arrive this year. They are releasing various updates about the game and its progress, but there’s no Blight: Survival release date for the time being. So we are only left to wait and see what will happen eventually.
Is there Blight: Survival cross-platform?
It’s another thing that the developers did not confirm at least for the time being. No cross-platform or crossplay will be available at least at launch. But from what we learned from the various interviews and videos, it’s clear they want to keep people playing with those on the same platform. There might be a few reasons behind that.
Cross-platform can bring in stability issues, since some platforms might have better optimization when compared to others. That also means some players might have advantage over others, something that’s definitely going to be an issue. The idea of having to play only with others on your platform is great and it definitely adds to the excitement and experience. Yes, it’s not an easy feat, but it will help enhance your experience without running into issues.
Conclusion
We expect Blight: Survival to be an excellent game, since its extraction and roguelite gameplay sounds very appealing. There’s no Blight: Survival release date at the time of this writing, but we will keep you updated in case the developers decide to share a release date. One thing is certain, there’s no other game like this, and its unique style and setting is what sets it apart. Plus, the gameplay mechanics and the fact that you can play with up to 3 people is also quite an amazing achievement!
