EA’s Madden franchise is a popular one that fans eagerly wait for every year. Madden NFL 25 is right around the corner and is not to be confused with 2013’s Madden 25, which was launched that year as a celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary. With this game and EA College Football 25 that launched on July 19, this has become a memorable summer of Gridiron.
From its looks, Madden NFL 25 is shaping up to be quite an exciting game featuring Boom Tech, Hit Stick, and other exciting gameplay improvements. Considering the massive player numbers College Football 25 has managed to get, one can only imagine how much of a hit EA Sports Madden NFL 25 will be. Here’s everything that you need to know about the game!
Madden NFL 25 Release Date & Platforms
EA has officially confirmed that Madden NFL 25 will launch on August 16, 2024, with a new NFL sim. However, if you pre-order the deluxe edition of the game, you’ll be able to kickstart the game three days earlier on August 13. If the past is any indication, EA Play subscribers can play a 10-hour trial on the same date, allowing players to see if the game matches their taste.
With the release date, the Madden NFL 25 platforms were also confirmed, so the game will launch on PC via Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. On top of this, it’ll be available on the Epic Game Store and the Windows Store for players who prefer buying their video games from there. However, it’s unclear if the game will launch on Switch.
Unfortunately, the game hasn’t yet been announced for Xbox Game Pass, so Madden NFL 25 Xbox One wouldn’t be through that service. However, there’s a chance the game might come to Game Pass through EA Play, but that might not happen for happens. For example, Madden NFL 24 arrived on Game Pass in February 2024, nearly six months after the game’s launch.

This year’s football simulator has more than a few things in store for the fans, all explained in the Gameplay Deep Dive trailer. This trailer discusses the mechanics and new Madden NFL 25 features that’ll appear in the game, such as physics-based tackles, Boom Tech (which integrates real-world physics into the game), Reloaded Hit Stick, etc. Watch the trailer below:
Madden NFL 25 Cover
The Madden 25 cover star is none other than the famous Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers running back. Moving away from tradition, the athlete will appear in all three editions of the game in a number of unique poses. Senior Production Director Mike Mahar says, “Christian’s electrifying, dynamic and physical play style perfectly represents the gameplay innovations we’re bringing to Madden NFL 25 and made him the ideal fit for this year’s cover.”
Madden NFL 25 Gameplay
EA has promised to make Madden 25 “look, feel, and sound different” with new features and details that have been introduced to events like the annual NFL Draft and the Super Bowl trophy presentation. The commentators Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis are back with more voices, such as the pairings of Mike Tirico and Greg Olsen, as well as Kate Scott and Brock Huard.
These pairs are all set to deliver 42,000 new dialogue recordings that will bring some welcome change to the presentation within the game. On top of this, there will be constant in-season updates throughout the years to keep the dialogues fresh, so players won’t be getting bored of this game anytime soon. The developers have already thought of everything in the game!
In addition, there’s also a Madden NFL 25 create a team feature, famously known as the Team Builder, feature. Players can design their teams with customization tools available on the Team Builder website. From unique logos to personalizing one’s team uniforms and helmets on the field, this feature allows players to dominate the game and participate in the Super Bowl in style.
BOOM Tech
The most exciting and highly anticipated Madden 25 gameplay feature is the great Boom Tech. It took two years for the developers to develop this physics-based tackling mechanic, which used weight, timing, player ratings, speed, momentum, and speed to predict what’ll happen when players tackle a ball carrier. Sounds like something one should experience, right?
Clint Oldenburg, the game’s director and former NFL player, says, “This system is not organic physics, or ragdoll, but rather dynamic animation selection informed by real-world physics. While not every tackle-type in the game is driven by physics, BOOM Tech will make Hit Sticks, Cut Sticks, and Dive Tackles more authentic and more unpredictable.”
Reloaded Hit Stick
The legendary Hit Stick feature is set to make a comeback in the game after being properly polished and reimagined. This timing-based mechanic provides hard-hitting control that’s determined by the player’s angle of impact, stick skill, and accuracy for trucks, cut sticks, and big hits. It also offers on-field visual indicators, impactful tackle sound effects, and much more.
Ball Carrier Balance & Recovery System
Madden 25 will also feature a brand-new Ball Carrier Balance and Recovery System that’ll determine a particular Boom Tech branching animation. This mechanic will be based on the player’s quality of a hit and the ratings of the players that are involved. This feature provides the control one needs to overcome the Hit Stick, get out of the tackle, and regain their balance.
The core gameplay of the upcoming game will feature the latest iteration of FieldSENSE, allowing players more control over various areas like catching, coverages, passing, and blocking. It also offers advanced ball carrier mechanics for a more enhanced and dynamic experience. These mechanics help bring the real experience of NFL play styles to your screens.
Madden NFL 25 Game Modes
Madden 25 is set to feature four game modes, each with its number of sub-modes. The gameplay experience varies depending on the game mode you choose. Here are the four games, along with their sub-modes:
Ultimate Team
Ultimate Team is an online mode and one of the most popular modes to ever be introduced in the entire Madden franchise. It allows players to build their dream team with current NFL players and the game’s legends. You can go up against other players. So far, it has been confirmed that the mode will feature sub-modes like Solo Seasons, Head 2 Head, and 6-on-6 Live Events. However, there might be more sub-modes once the game launches. These modes help players earn coins, rewards, and packs that can be used to upgrade one’s squad.
Franchise
While the Franchise mode has been neglected a lot in the past, causing it to suffer, it’s still quite popular among the fan base. The mode lets players control an NFL franchise of their own choosing, with its only goal being to win the Vince Lombardi trophy. You can control everything in the franchise, such as scouting, making trades, hiring and firing the coaching staff, and more.
With this mode, players get a chance to experience everything from the eyes of an NFL general manager. Not only this, but the Franchise mode has received some exciting new features while also revamping the previous ones. This mode has received the most changes in the hopes that the mode feels more immersive and offers a far better gaming experience for the players.
Superstar
Through this mode, players can live an NFL player and experience the wins and losses, as well as the pros and cons. You can customize your character in different ways. As you play games and accomplish great things, you will earn points that will help you improve your character. Feel like a real athlete with the Superstar mode and get the most realistic experience possible.
Quick Play
The Quick Play mode has four sub-modes, which are Play Now, Online Head-to-Head, Pro Bowl, and Superstar KO. Play Now lets players go against the CPU or their friends in a custom game. It’s the perfect mode to play if you’re in the mood to play for a quick game.
In Online Head-to-Head, players will go against other players and try to win as many games as possible to climb the leaderboards. Each player must pick any one of the 32 NFL teams present while playing with the default Madden NFL 25 rosters. The more games you win in Madden NFL 25’s season mode for competitive, the higher your rank in the H2H divisions leaderboards.
If you feel like playing some competitive Madden and don’t want to spend your time or money assembling a professional squad in Ultimate Team, this is the mode for you. On the other hand, the Pro Bowl allows players to play classic Pro Bowl matches with a friend or alone in a co-op gameplay experience. The Superstar KO mode allows players to assemble a team of superstars and battle it out in the field until there’s only one team standing in the end.
