We recently heard news of a new game based on the Aliens series, named Alien: Rogue Incursion, which will be released this year. The game, also known as Project Macondo, was leaked prior to the official announcement from the publishers and its creating studio. It is a virtual reality game by Survios.
It’s about time we got a VR game in this digital era. Alien Rogue Incursion finally gives gamers a way to experience games to a whole new level. Art Director Tate Mosesian and Writer Alex White explain why they had to go that path and how iconic moments from the film franchise may have inspired the game. Alien Rogue Incursion is a new addition to the single-player action horror virtual reality game set to the Alien franchise.
Survios is developing it and will be published by the 20th Century. They have produced a dizzying array of games throughout the years. Their expertise in generating realistic and authentic gaming experiences will be fully utilized in the game. If you enjoyed Alien: Isolation and believe you can withstand an even more intense horror experience featuring the legendary Xenomorph, you’re in luck. Learn all about this exciting game here, from the platforms it will be released on and when you can finally enjoy it!
About Alien: Rogue Incursion
Alien: Rogue Incursion is a new addition to the Alien universe, and it will be the first game to be designed for VR platforms. It will be an entirely original story set between the events of Alien and Aliens on a planet called Purdan.
This will be a purely single-player horror game in which you will explore a facility while being pursued by numerous Xenomorphs. They will spawn and follow a dynamic path based on the player’s activities, keeping scares surprising and fresh. Players of Alien: Isolation can guess how unsettling this game is going to be. For some gamers, the more disturbing the game is, the better the experience.
You will have access to weaponry, such as the renowned pulse rifle, but resources are limited, so blasting every creature will no doubt be impractical. The game will encourage creative thinking and ways to use the environment to survive.
According to a description on the studio’s website, the game is being developed for PC, consoles, and virtual reality. It will use Unreal Engine 5 for graphics, producing an immersive world where players may participate in an original plot set between the Alien and Aliens films.
Survios has extensive experience developing current entertainment products through video games. The studio previously obtained the rights for MGM’s Creed film, which led to the creation of its Creed: Rise to Glory VR boxing game. Survios has also created games based on television shows, including AMC’s The Walking Dead and HBO’s Westworld.
Furthermore, it will remain a third-person shooter and co-op game, with players having the option of campaigning with a three-person AI-controlled squad or other players.
Alien Rogue Incursion Release Date
Alien: Rogue Incursion is now planned to premiere on December 19, 2024.
Survios, a long-time VR studio known for Creed: Rise to Glory, The Walking Dead Onslaught, and a number of other early VR products, is developing the game.
Alien: Rogue Incursion promises to immerse players in the horrifying world of the Alien franchise, and the recent pre-order and release date trailer provides a detailed look at the game’s shooting action and Xenomorph opponents.
Alien Rogue Incursion Development
Survios announced on July 20, 2022, that it was developing an Aliens game for consoles, PC, and virtual reality devices. They shared a piece of artwork and announced that further information would be unveiled at Comic-Con.
TQ Jefferson, Chief Product Officer at Survios, said in the press release:
When I joined Survios in 2020, it was to build bigger, more ambitious games using the best entertainment franchises across console, PC, and VR platforms. Aliens is a distinct and terrifying world that fans love to be entrenched in, and it is perfect for Survios’ proven expertise in creating immersive gaming experiences.
Luigi Priore, VP of Disney, Pixar and 20th Century Games, also said:
The vast universe of Alien is full of untold stories and opportunities to create gripping original games. We’re thrilled to work with a team like Survios, who shares our passion for Alien and for immersing fans into new worlds and experiences.
Survios and 20th Century Games officially revealed the game’s title, platforms, and release date on April 26, 2024, along with a brief teaser.
The first gameplay footage was revealed in May 2024. During Comic-Con 2024, a new teaser was unveiled, showing that the primary character is none other than Zula Hendricks, who starred in comics and books.
Alien: Rogue Incursion Story
The story of Alien: Rogue Incursion revolves around Zula Hendricks as she prepares to fight for her life. She is in a severe situation: her former squadmate has disappeared from the isolated mining planet Purdan, and her job is to do whatever it takes to save her friend.
Zula Hendricks is an unbreakable ex-Colonial Marine. She has a risky mission that leads her to the unexplored planet Purdan and the secrets hidden beneath its surface. Zula and her AI companion, Davis-01, must fight their way to the core of Gemini Exoplanet Solutions’ contaminated black-site complex. There, she will have to survive deadly attacks from the most clever Xenomorphs ever encountered. The players discover new horrors and threats that, if released, could mark the end of humanity.
Alien Rogue Incursion Trailers
Announcement Trailer
We finally saw the much-awaited Alien: Rogue Incursion announcement trailer on April 26, 2024. It was short and sweet, and we got to know the name and planet in the same manner as in the movie. They announced the release date while a frightening motion tracker ping played in the background.
About a month later, on May 31, 2024, during the recent PlayStation ‘State of Play’ livestream, we got the first peek video, which was just as short. However, it did provide some gameplay to look at. Although we’ve known about the game’s development for a long time, it was officially revealed on Alien Day and is set to release this Christmas.
In the trailer, the players are crawling through a dark and misty facility with a pulse rifle and motion tracker. Facehuggers and Xenomorphs are lurking around as well. The initial teaser was only a logo reveal, but now we got to see the first peek at what to expect after we put on those VR headsets. Check out the trailer below.
In the next Alien: Rogue Incursion trailer, we see a glimpse of the main character of the game, Zula Hendricks. Zula Hendricks will be familiar to many comic book and novel readers. She initially appeared in the comic novels Aliens: Defiance, Resistance, and Rescue. She later appears in the novels Alien: Isolation (alongside Amanda Ripley), Alien: Prototype, and Alien: Inferno’s Fall.
Gameplay Trailers
In the next clip, revealed on July 28, 2024, Zula Hendricks is battling Xenomorphs on the planet Purdan. She is narrating the footage and claims that she has discovered what she was seeking on Purdan: a full-fledged infestation and that everyone has died. The clip is intercut with many scenes of her fighting Xenomorphs.
Then, a few days ago, we got two new trailers: the Xenomorphs trailer and the official Weapons & Gear trailer. The Xenomorphs trailer showed us a glimpse of the various Xenomorphs that will be on the prowl. We see many creatures, from Facehuggers to the Xenomorph itself.
In the official Weapons & Gear trailer, we get familiar with the many weapons and equipment that players will use in the game, such as the Motion Tracker, Revolver, Shotgun, and others.
Alien Rogue Incursion Platforms
The game has been announced for Meta Quest 3, PlayStation VR 2, and PC VR via Steam. Alien Rogue Incursion PSVR2 headset vibration and PS VR2 Sense controller vibration are optional. PS VR2 Sense controller trigger effect is also optional. Alien Rogue Incursion Xbox aill also be available.
However, if you don’t have a current-generation headset, you won’t be able to enjoy the thrill of a Facehugger leaping at your face.
The officially branded tie-in game will be available for Quest 3 later this year but not for any other Quest headset, indicating dwindling developer interest in supporting Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
In addition to being available on PSVR 2 and SteamVR, a Survios spokeswoman confirmed to Road to VR that Alien: Rogue Incursion is “native to Meta Quest 3 only.” Therefore, we will not see Alien Rogue Incursion Quest 2 or Quest Pro.
Alien Rogue Incursion Price
The game will be available in two editions:
- PlayStation VR2 – Standard: $59.95, Deluxe: $75.95
- Alien: Rogue Incursion Meta Quest 3 – $59.99 Standard
- Alien: Rogue Incursion PC VR (Steam) – Standard $58.50, Deluxe $73.50
The Deluxe version includes the standard game, blue camo armor skin, blue camo weapon skin, and more.
Players who pre-order the standard edition will receive in-game cosmetics inspired by Alien: Romulus. It will include a weapon and an armor set. We’re guessing that the weapon will be the new F44AA Pulse Rifle seen in the movie.
Other Alien Games
Despite being most known as a cinematic property, the Aliens series has nearly as lengthy a history in video games. Its history includes both renowned entries like Alien Isolation and more infamous ones like Alien Colonial Marines. Aliens: Fireteam Elite joined the ranks last year, and it came laden with some fantastic Aliens Easter eggs for gamers to discover.
Aliens: Dark Descent, a strategy game set to release next year, will immerse players in a unique Alien scenario. You will lead a band of marines into battle against the scariest enemy humanity has ever encountered. A cinematic trailer for the game hinted at a squad-based approach to Xenomorph fighting.
Alien Rogue Incursion VR
There are three different VR play types: sitting, standing, and room-scale. Depending on the VR play styles offered, some games and apps demand wider play areas.
Roomscale requires a minimum play area of 2 m × 2 m, allowing for free movement. Ensure that you have enough physical space before purchasing anything that requires only the room-scale VR play style, as the game or experience will not begin without the needed play area. Sitting requires a play space of at least 1 m × 1 m. Make sure you have enough room to move your arms freely, if necessary. To play the game standing, you will need a play space of at least 1 m × 1 m.
You cannot play Rogue Incursion without VR. It requires a virtual reality headset. There is no mode or option to play the game without a suitable headset, such as the PlayStation VR 2 or Meta Quest 3.
Because the game was built exclusively for VR, it is doubtful, but not impossible, that it will ever be released in a non-VR form.
System Requirements
The minimum requirements for your PC include a 64-bit processor and Windows 10 operating system. You will also need VR support, including valve index, Meta Rift S, Quest 2, or Quest 3.
Bottom Line
One look at Rogue Incursion, and you will know it’s not for the faint of heart. Notice that the title is Alien, not Aliens. That minor variation is significant. Since, the former returns to the original film’s horror roots, in contrast to the sequel’s more action-heavy approach.
Alien Rogue Incursion will be the first current-generation exclusive VR game centered on the Alien universe, utilizing the Unreal Engine. It is slated to release on 19th December on PSVR 2 and other VR platforms. If this sounds like your cup of tea, head on to ElectronicFirst to pre-order now for excellent prices. You can also find the Alien Rogue Incursion Steam Account and the PC Steam CD Key.
