It has been nearly seven years since the launch of a brand-new mainline title of the Final Fantasy series on PC. The wait is soon about to come to an end, with the Final Fantasy 16 PC launch date right around the corner. The eagerly anticipated JRPG game explores the story of the main protagonist, Clive Rosfield, who goes on an adventure to keep world peace intact.
Final Fantasy 16 is set in Valisthea, a place that’s divided among six dominant nations. However, a time comes when peace between the nations becomes hard to maintain since Valisthea deals with a suspicious threat called the Blight.
In this article, we’ll dive deeper into the game’s PC release date, gameplay, system requirements, cost, and more!
When Is Final Fantasy 16 Coming To PC?
Since the exclusive launch of Final Fantasy 16 on PlayStation 5, PC users have also been eagerly awaiting the title’s arrival on their respective gaming platforms. Through the FF16 Steam page, it was officially confirmed that the game is scheduled to launch on PC on September 17, 2024. Many players have also started counting down the days when they can play the game!
In addition to the release date, the Final Fantasy 16 PC Steam page featured a demo allowing players to experience the game’s opening section. You can click here to get your hands on the demo. If you’re a demo player, you can transfer all your data to the actual game once it officially launches. The demo also features an exciting bespoke mode called Eikonic Challenge.
However, this mode will only become available to those players who have completed their main quests. It’s a way to make it up to the Final Fantasy 16 PC players and allows them to enjoy late-game opponents, battles, and equipment. While it was originally supposed to launch earlier, it was revealed that the team had trouble implementing seamless loading into the PC version.
Final Fantasy 16 Setting & Lore
FF16 explores the land of Valisthea, from where people can get the Mothercrystals, whose aether people depend on fully to recharge their magicks to use in their everyday lives. With the fading of the aether, you’ll see deadlands slowly spread all over the land, with the nation’s tentative peace breaking up between the different nations that exist all over the game’s world.
This fading is also called the Blight. If this wasn’t enough, the game also features Eikons, which are strong and terrifying creatures found in Valisthea. They live inside a Dominant, i.e., a man or woman who has the power to utilize the creature’s power. If you ever encounter an Eikon, then you should definitely consider running for your life or try your best to fight it out!
Final Fantasy 16 Protagonist
These are dangerous things, with each nation viewing its Dominant in a unique manner. Some treat them like royalty, whereas some consider them their slaves and lethal weapons used during times of war. Final Fantasy 16 Clive Rosfield is the protagonist, the older brother of Joshua Rosfield, the firstborn son to the Duke of Rosaria, and the Dominant of the Phoenix.
While everyone expected Clive to take over the Phoenix’s flame and become the Dominant, his brother Joshua ended up being the chosen one. So, he has made it his duty to protect his younger brother. Unfortunately, a mysterious attack occurs at his house that forever changes Clive and his family’s lives. Once you start playing, the storyline will compel you not to stop.
On top of this, his position as the First Shield of the Ducal Army also comes to an end because of a suspicious new Eikon named Ifrit. This event, along with the others, forces Clive to embark on a journey that allows him to take revenge. This entire journey alone is set to leave a mark on Clive as well as the land of Valisthea. So, are you up for a challenging yet thrilling adventure?
Final Fantasy 16 Characters
Final Fantasy 16 features a wide range of characters, so at every turn during the game’s storyline, you’ll meet a new and unique personality. Some of them will stand by you as your allies, whereas there are some who will go up against you. However, each experience and relationship will be a rich and memorable experience. Here are some major characters:
Clive Rosfield
The game’s protagonist, who you’ll control and see constantly evolve from a young, innocent boy to a powerful force to be reckoned with.
Joshua Rosfield
Five years younger than Clive, Joshua is a warm and affectionate young boy who admires Clive. He’s the opposite of his brother in the sense that Clive is confident and brave, whereas Joshua is weak. The story’s tragic events also affect him.
Jill Warrick
In addition to being Clive’s childhood friend, Jill is also the Dominant of Shiva. While born in the Northern Territories, Jill was raised as Rosaria’s ward. She grows up with Clive and Joshua and becomes an integral part of their household.
Torgal
This is yet another creature that hails from the Northern Territories and has been adopted by House Rosfield. Torgal survived the disaster that almost brought an end to the Rosfield line. However, he meets Clive again a decade later and serves him with such fierce and admirable loyalty. Players can also pet him in the game.
Cidolfus Telamon
He’s the Dominant of Ramuh and a soldier who’s turned into an outlaw. He dreams of constructing a place where mistreated magick-wielders and Dominants who are used can do so as they wish. He’s also scientifically inclined.
Benedikta Harman
Dominant of Garuda (the Warden of Wind), Benedikta is an evil, merciless, and ruthless person. Due to her excellence in swordplay and trickery, she becomes the commander of Waloed’s elite intelligencers.
Hugo Kupka
His position as a Permanent Economic Adviser position grants him power within the Republic since he has complete control over policy-making and the military.
Dion Lesage
He’s the Crown Prince of Sanbreque’s Holy Empire as well as the leader of his fearsome and noble knights called the dragoons. Dion is also widely appreciated and respected by his people and troops for turning the tide of the battle to help them win.
Barnabas Tharmr
Being the King of Waloed and the Dominant of Odin, Barnabas holds the position of being the second main antagonist. He introduces Valisthea to destruction and tries to connect Clive to the realm’s other Dominants for an evil reason.
Final Fantasy 16 Gameplay
Final Fantasy 16 combat features fast-paced battles that leave one excited and hooked. While you’re in control of Clive, you can utilize all of his exciting strengths, agility, and attacks to take down an army of opponents, whether humans or monsters. Clive can also use his Eikon’s power, which opens up a new range of defensive and offensive Final Fantasy 16 best abilities.
He can easily call upon the Phoenix’s power to move toward his enemies in the blink of an eye. As you progress through the game, you’ll gain access to more Eikonic abilities. For example, you’ll be able to launch electric attacks with Ramuh’s power, utilize Shiva’s ice attacks, etc. Players can also switch between powers by pressing a button to keep the combat exciting.
However, it won’t always be Clive fighting alone on the battlefield since his friends will join him often. Once the battle begins, they’ll automatically start running toward him to fight beside him and support him throughout. In addition to this, he can also summon his faithful hound, Torgal, in the middle of combat and directly ask him to attack opponents, heal Clive, and a lot more.
Eikon Combat
Some terrifyingly epic combat takes place between two Eikons when their Dominants stand against each other. You get to directly control these exciting battles, each of which features different mechanics. You can choose the Phoenix to indulge in more fast-paced shooter action, go up against Garuda with the help of Ifrit in lethal hand-to-hand combat, and so much more.
The entire force and devastating power of these creatures are put on complete display in these virtually appealing and thrilling combat scenes. Unfortunately, Square Enix hasn’t officially revealed if there will be a Final Fantasy 16 Higher Difficulty Update for professionals who would like to take their game up a couple of notches. However, they might add it sometime later.
If you’re not someone who’s a fan of action games and are more comfortable with the adventure aspect of the game as compared to the thrill, the video game will still cater to you. It has been designed in such a way that players of every skill level and experience can play it. This is mainly thanks to the unique accessories players can equip, which change the game’s play style.
Accessories
The game features a total of five accessories for you to choose from at the beginning of a game instantly, so you can experiment with whatever works best for you and your play style. The game also features hunts, so after you complete “The Gathering Storm” main story quest, you’ll unlock the exciting Hunt Board. Talk to Nektar the moogle to check which hunts are open to you.
There are many Final Fantasy 16 hunt locations for you to get through, so make sure to keep checking up on the Hunt Board to unlock more rewards. These hunts are an exciting aspect of the game that further introduces main quests and side quests within the game.
