SpongeBob has been part of everyone’s childhood. We all would have dreamed about the chronicles of Bikini Bottom, which shows the great importance of SpongeBob to its fans. It is an animated Television Series which revolves around the main character SpongeBob.
SpongeBob SquarePants has been a real success since its launch, earning more than $13 billion for Nickelodeon. This massive success and business opportunity have attracted game developers to produce very engaging games involving the characters from the series. Although the games are not the exact depiction of the TV series still they are full of fun.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is the upcoming video game that is set to be released on 31st January 2023. In this article, we will be discussing the game in detail. We will cover all the related news surrounding the game. Without delaying any further, let’s get into the fun part.
Development and Publishing
Purple Lamp Studios is working on the development of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. They have also developed other SpongeBob games in the past. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for the Bikini Bottom– Rehydrated was a great hit for Purple Lamp Studios which played a motivational role in the development of The Cosmic Shake. Although the genre of both games is the same yet, a big lot of change has been made between the two which we will see in the later part of the article.
THQ Nordic is the one responsible for the publication of almost all the SpongeBob SquarePants games and The Cosmic Shake is no different. They announced the game on the event of their 10th anniversary in September 2021. They also released a small Gameplay trailer in August 2022. In 2022 a small demo of the game was also available at Gamescom. We would discuss the revelations that the demo brought later.
Release Date and Versions
THQ announced to release of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake on 31st January 2023. The game will be released on multiple platforms which include Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
A limited-time “BFF Edition” is made available on all platforms which you can preorder now. The game will be delivered with some cute gifts and ornaments for the players. The box will include the SpongeBob statue, an inflatable Patrick, an amulet necklace, miniature bouncing balls, placemats, “Costume Pack” DLC, and a special box.
What’s Different in The Cosmic Shake?
We have mentioned above that there are SpongeBob games out there in the same genre but what set The Cosmic Shake unique is what we are after.
The Purple Lamp Studios’ SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottoms–Rehydrated inspired this game so it was inevitable that some things will be the same. However, unlike the previous game The Cosmic Shake players will be able to control SpongeBob only. This time the developers focused on the costumes of the characters.
The costume that your character will be wearing will determine how powerful he will be against evil. Now it is all in your hands to save the future of the Bikini Bottoms.
The Gameplay
The much-anticipated part of the article is here. Well to write this is way much energy-filled for us. Although the game is yet to be launched the trailer is out there and the little demo which THQ released gives a pretty good idea of what the game would look like.
As the genre of the game is action-adventure, so the end goal would be to save the Bikini Bottoms from the evil powers. Well, it’s not just that, there are many fun things to do along the way.
SpongeBob has several costumes with specific roles suitable for different situations. The demo which was released shows our protagonist in a cowboy hat and blue pants. Adding a sense of coolness and character to SpongeBob.
The deployment of a pizza box after a long jump to be safe from damage is a cool feature. SpongeBob has also got some cool Karate moves in his bag. While you are going towards the goal there are enemies which SpongeBob has to beat and there are also juice corners to relax the tiring muscles of our warrior.
The gameplay was really fun to watch, which makes us more excited about the game. Don’t forget to open the chute after the big falls.
Graphics of the game
All we have as proof until now is the demo released by THQ a year ago. The technology world runs at a very fast pace, so the game might have a better version than the demo itself. However, the graphics quality reflected in the demo video was not bad by any stretch. The details of everything were kept in mind while developing the infrastructure of the game.
The fighting bits of the game are as smooth as they come. The bubbles produced after you kill a beast are just adorable. The enemies are designed to not be much scary for the kids. As SpongeBob is the favorite character of many kids and the game will also be played by the kids mostly so it is quite appreciable that the developers kept that in mind.
The sound effects of the actions taken by our character and the environment itself are just spot on. Our personal favorite is the sound of SpongeBob drinking cactus juice. The bubbly sound effects bring a soothing vibe to the whole gameplay.
Key Features of the game
By now we have established that the game will have some amazing graphics paired up with an epic storyline to give the players a uniquely enjoyable experience. However, there are some key features that will enhance the experience of the players even further.
The players will be able to unlock the classic and new platforming skills for SpongeBob. These skills will include Fishhook Swings and Karate kicks. The costumes we have discussed above are also a key feature of this game that set this game apart from others. There will be more than 30 fun costumes to choose from.
The game will have seven Wishworld, each with its own unique ambiance and gameplay. Wild West, Jelly Fish Fields, and Halloween Rock Bottom were looking the most attractive ones. SpongeBob’s best friend Patrick will be always there for buddy banter which adds much more fun while playing the game.
All the characters in the game are voiced by the people who did the voiceover in the TV series. This initiative will add authenticity to the gameplay. The in-game playlist is also a marvel of its own. It includes 101 songs in total, which are all from the series. The infamous Sweet Victory is also added to the playlist.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake– Game vs TV series
Although these games don’t depict the same storyline as in the TV series. However, the concept is inherited somehow. But The Cosmic Shake comes in conflict with the TV series in some aspects. Here we will ponder how much the game is like the series.
As the TV series has been showing that Bikini Bottoms is under the sea. This implies that SpongeBob must be immune to the salty water, however, this is not the case in the game. SpongeBob receives damage from the salty water.
The storyline of The Cosmic Shake is not 100% like any episode of the TV series. Yet the enemies from the series are chosen in the game too. Gary will be seen as the boss enemy in the game and Sandy Cheeks will also be seen in action against SpongeBob in the martial arts world. Mr Krabs will be the robber baron in the wild west world.
The boss enemy Gary must be kept away from his candy supply and the rest will depend on your skill to defeat him in the arena fights.
