This article delves into the latest updates surrounding Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, exploring its story, release date and more.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is seen as one of the top RPG games of the early 2000s. Sure, it was janky and it did have a lot of bugs. But there’s a reason why the community continues to play it even today. It really is a unique game for the genre, and it builds upon the Vampire: The Masquerade lore, while adding a unique range of ideas as well. Now that we know a sequel is in production, we are very excited to see how things will evolve and whether this new game will be even better than the predecessor.
Is Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 open world?
A lot of people were wondering if Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will be open world. However, the developers shared the news that no, the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 game will not be an open world experience. They are trying to keep it similar to the first game. That means it’s not an open world experience.
Instead, what we have is a hub zone where you will interact with people, acquire and complete quests, but most of the action and quest hunting will be in select areas. There’s no open world experience here unfortunately. However, by keeping the hub approach, the game is very similar to the predecessor. That’s a good thing because lots of people are excited to see a continuation of that first game.
Was Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 canceled?
The game certainly had its problems during development, that’s not something new. However, what we should note here is the fact that they contacted some of the people who worked on the first game, yet those persons were removed from the sequel eventually. There’s no official statement, but what we heard is that the game was rebooted in 2021.
There was the option to cancel development but instead of keeping the previous developers, they went ahead with another development partner. Apparently they also chose to keep the game’s progress for the most part, while also making some changes to the story and presentation. It’s amazing to see how the game has evolved and managed to grow over the years, even if we have just a few images to see. But even then, it’s exciting to finally see a sequel to this game.
We have to realize that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines was not a best seller. In fact, upon launch it sold 100k copies. That’s not a lot, yet people have eventually managed to find it and now there are lots of fans for the game. It’s how the sequel’s development started, and even if it was troublesome, it seems we will have Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 coming out sometime in 2024.
When will Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 come out?
The Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 release date is very difficult to pinpoint outside of the year 2024. The reason is that The Chinese Room, which is the developer for this game now, they took over and they are trying to finalize the game. It’s definitely not an easy process as they are continuing the work of others. However, there are definitely some challenges in the process that encouraged them to push this a little and thus there’s uncertainty when it comes to the project’s release date.
Paradox, which is the publisher, has doubled down on the marketing, they created a trailer, so they are indeed focused on bringing this game to life. When will that happen is a very good question, but we can expect this to arrive sooner rather than later. And it’s also why many of us are excited about Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 in the first place, because there’s a lot to enjoy and have fun with.
Is Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 a first person game?
Yes, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will be in first person and it will give you that exciting, unique style that a lot of people expect from this type of game. It’s amazing to see how it all adds together and the unique gameplay that it offers, since it’s an RPG at heart too. A lot of people are comparing it to Cyberpunk 2077, which is also a first person RPG.
In this case, we have a lot of lore and the unique ideas provided here are extremely interesting. They do a good job at not only offering you an insight into the story of Vampire: The Masquerade with the Tremere and other races, but you can also choose to join some of them, enter in various different alliances with them or just try to forge your own path.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 also tries to give you a lot of different ways to eliminate your enemies. We don’t know if we need to feed often, since we are indeed vampires, but we assume that’s going to be a part of the experience as well. But is the game going to be a one off or will it continue the story from the previous one? Let’s find out!
The Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 story
Obviously the story is still subject to change, but there are some Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 story bits and pieces that were shared. With that in mind, in this game we play the role of an older vampire. The game is set in Seattle during the 21st century, although they did not specify if it’s the current day or sometime in the future.
However, we know there will be multiple vampire clans that we can belong to. That affects the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 gameplay, because every vampire clan has different abilities. And that also means you have a lot more replay value, something that’s very exciting for RPG players in particular.
What about the vampiric element? Since you are a vampire, you need to feed on human characters to survive. There are no specific details when it comes to the survival elements that may or may not be in the game. But we know that you need to feed on humans, and you also have to stay away from getting caught. That’s a challenge because most people will find it very hard to do such a thing.
Vampires are all trying to stay hidden and maintain the masquerade of being seen as mortals. So you have to continue that element, which means getting caught can be extremely bad. Obviously we assume that a lot of stealth needs to be involved in order to keep that unique element of the game alive. There are many NPCs spread all over the game world, and as we said, you can choose a faction to join if you want. That’s great because it adds a unique style to the game, while implementing something a lot more interesting and immersive at the same time.
Can you use any vampiric powers?
What we heard about Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is that you will be penalized if you use certain vampiric powers. Those come with their own downsides, but apparently they are very powerful too. So there had to be a constraint from keeping you using the same powers over and over. That adds a unique sense of variety, while still bringing you the means to access powerful disciplines if you so desire.
As we said, you can’t feed in the public, so if there’s any kind of witness, you will be penalized for that. Apparently if that happens, you expose vampires and that means the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 gameplay will change. There are some rules you have to follow and not everything is going to be very easy to go through. That’s what makes the game fun though, because it gives you that excitement, while also increasing the innovative aspect.
Since you can pick your own background and story from premade ideas, it’s all very exciting and it adds to the uniqueness of the experience. That being said, every type of vampire you choose has their own features and ways to live. Nosferatu are doomed to live in the shadows, Toreador are very close to humans, Ventrue are very noble, Tremere are very tricky and hard to deal with, and then we have Gangrel which are loners or the rebels Brujah. Having access to so many different character styles is amazing and it certainly helps improve upon the experience in a very creative and fun way.
Is Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 inspired by the tabletop game?
The entire Vampire: The Masquerade game series, including the battle royale game, are all inspired by the tabletop game. It’s always great to see that the game is being worked on and close to release, because a lot of people were unsure if this title was ever going to see the light of day. But we finally get to have this game come out, and we are excited to see it all come to fruition.
Are there any boss fights in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2?
It’s one of the questions that come up very often, because the first person focus does make the game very good for boss fights. But will there be any boss fights? For the time being, there’s no official confirmation about any boss fights that we might have in the game. We do know there are faction leaders and so on, but we have no idea if the game will go on the more realistic route or embrace the idea of including boss fights.
With that in mind, we do believe that there will be some tougher enemies that we encounter as we play. That’s what makes Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 so impressive, the fact that there are so many great possibilities. And since the first game is definitely one of the best RPGs in recent times despite being janky, there are lots of high expectations from this game as well. Whether those will cone to fruition or not, it’s hard to say. But we do expect the title to not be as janky as the first one.
Is the main character voiced?
There are no details whether all the NPCs will be voiced or not. However, The Chinese Room developer suggested that the main character is fully voiced. And apparently there will be multiple choices you can make, so this is a game with a lot of dialog. But that’s what makes it special, the fact that you can make choices, choose how to play and see how it all falls together in the end.
Also, it seems that some of the NPCs will have special blood characteristics that will give you all kinds of benefits. It’s similar to the Bloodhunt battle royale game, and that certainly adds a very unique spin to this element. With that being said, it’s nice to see that not all humans will give you the same amount or blood, and the quality will differ.
Those humans that have a neglected lifestyle will offer less and low quality blood, while healthier humans will be the ones you want to focus on. That’s interesting because you will end up experimenting with your attacks and figure out how to play in an appropriate manner. People are excited to see how Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will actually play, since we barely had a glimpse at the gameplay. However, it’s expected for us to receive some gameplay features and videos later on, very soon.
Conclusion
Paradox entered the development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 way before 2020, and the game didn’t have the best development process. But that doesn’t diminish our excitement for the game. It really is a great way to play the role of a vampire, something you rarely get to do in an RPG. We highly recommend giving a try to Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 when it comes out this year, as it’s been long in the making and one of the most hyped vampire games in recent years.
